Prof Balasubramanian K is working as a Professor, in the Department of  Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at  DIAT (DU), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, since 2010. Before the Professorship, he worked as Research Manager (Materials Technology) for a most reputed European Research Organisation, UK Materials Technology Research Institute (UK MatRI), Pera Innovation Park, Melton Mowbray, the UK, for a period of 7 years. He has  20 years of research, academic, work experience, and demonstrated competence in creativity to promote technological needs with high levels of quality, a high degree of commitment, diligence, and innovation. The outcome of such hard work helped him in receiving the most prestigious award twice at the UK MatRI, UK (award for technical Excellence 2007 and 2010). He received the most prestigious Hind Rattan Award, 2010, for outstanding contribution in the areas of Science and Technology, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India. He has a rich experience in the evaluation of DTI (UK), TSB (UK), FP6, and FP 7 European research programs, Brussels, Belgium. He received the Prestigious Best Researcher award for the Year 2014 by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, for outstanding contribution and development of "Novel Hybrid Ablative Composite as Thermal Protection Systems for Re-entry Vehicles." In 2016, 2017, and 2018, he received an Innovator Award, from the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India for the topic titled 'Biomimicking Ecofriendly Superhydrophobic coatings,' 'Recycling of Plastics and Rubber waste' and 'Polymer Design' respectively.
